Well hip hop nation; it looks like Da Brat is landed herself in financial trouble. The rapper artist known as Da Brat aka Shawntae Harris has filed for bankruptcy.
According to The Blast, the veteran rapper claims to have assets totaling $108,700.65, but liabilities that add up to a whopping $7,782,249.57.
It has been reported that a large portion of this debt is a result of a lawsuit from 2007 involving Shayla Stevens. Da Brat was charged with injuring Steven with a bottle which led to Steven facial scarring and neurological impairment as a result of the attack. Da Brat spent three years in prison for the incident.
It was also reported that Da Brat also owes both Sony Music and Ally Bank totaling $1,267,128.00. She also owes nearly $5,000.00 in credit card debt and to the Georgia Department of Revenue.
Da Brat is currently working on Rickey Smiley Morning Show and also serves as co-host on Dish Nation, a nightly pop culture news program and earned $75,000 this year thus far it has been reported she remains heavily in debt. Her monthly income as an entertainer/radio personality is approximately $9,319, her expenses total $10,506.55 a month. That leaves her $1,187 in the hole each month.
Da Brat’s bankruptcy case is reportedly still pending.
