Beginning the new year Under Amour will find itself without the founder and CEO at the helm. It has been reported the Kevin Plank who has been the acting Chairman and CEO since the company’s inception back in 1996. It is beginning to report that under Amour will not be left without a leader.
Patrik Friske a veteran executive who started with Under Amour in 2017 as the President and Chief Operating Officer will head the company. Friske will take the helm on January 1, 2020, as the company’s CEO. Friske comes to Under Amour with a wealth of experience he was previously CEO of The Aldo Group and spent over a decade with VF Corp where he acted as Coalition President of the Outdoors Division while overseeing the Timberland and The North Face brands.
Plank in a recent statement said of Friske he has a proven track record of industry experience that has positioned him to capitalize on the opportunities in front of us. Plank noted that Fiske has a straightforward leadership style for our brand and culture that makes him right for the job. Plank said “As I envision our future – I look forward to further partnering with him to continue our pursuit of becoming the best athletic brand in the world. I am confident that we are just getting started.”
As for Plank once the change is made, he will become the Executive Chairman and Brand Chief where his principal focus will be on “product elevation, amplifying the brand story and stewarding the company’s strong team culture. Friske will report to Plank and join Under Armour’s board of directors.
