Oh, What A Night in Miami Gardens. Last Saturday Night, was a tantalizing delight; Calder Casino welcomed the 2nd Annual Miami Gardens Wine and Food Experience to their grounds.
The evening’s attendees were elegantly dressed as they walked into the venue on stylish black carpet, where they were instantly transported to an upscale atmosphere with a sophisticated VIP section for the selected few.
The nights attendees were entertained by a live band while they mixed, mingled and sampled the great variety of wines. Due to the increased attendance this year, lines to sample the tasty delights of each Chefs were long, but all seem eager to wait for a chance to taste the dishes from the numerous vendors on site.
One of the highlights of the evening was the “Sweet Freak” baking competition. Where newcomer to the baking competition: Chef Porsha of “Sweet P Homemade Cupcakes N Things” won the night event. Chef Porsha teased the attendees with her taste bud entertaining Sweet Potato Spice Cake lace with a bacon and molasses buttercream icing.
But the real stars of the evening were the staff of Juanita’s Kitchen and their Chef Cecil G. Chef Cecil and the team from Juanita Kitchen made a clean sweep of the cooking competition, for the second year in a row, Juanita’s Kitchen brought home the “Golden Fork” award. The winning dish was their 4 layer plate. The bottom layer consists of Coconut Sweet Potato Plantain Bake, followed by the a layer of African Spiced Black Eye Peas that awoke the taste buds in preparation for the next layer of overnight Roasted Pork, which was topped with a Cracked Pepper Cornbread Crouton and shot of green stuff. The combination of flavors had the pallet of all attendees in ecstasy!
The main event of the night was the Master Chef Cook-off competition hosted by, Cooking Channels, Chef G Garvin. Each competing chefs was supplied with a mystery basket of ingredients in order to complete their entrée. The list of ingredients included: dry goji berries, fennel, green plantains, pumpkin and a whole chicken. The chefs were instructed that they had 30 minutes to come up with a winning dish. Here is where Chef Cecil G of Juanita’s Kitchen surpassed his competition with his culinary skills. Chef Cecil G. won the master chef competition and was honored with the title Miami Gardens Master Chef. His wining dish was, Tomato Fennel Stewed Chicken with a Candy Ginger Pumpkin Plantains Puree, Pepper Scallion relish and Salted Hydrated Goji berries which stole the show.
